Porque não posso estar nas iniciativas do 15 de Maio...
Há momentos em que temos de fazer opções. Quando fui eleito Vereador na Câmara Municipal de Caldas da Rainha, com a votação que os Caldenses quiseram dar ao Partido Socialista, já desempenhava as funções de Deputado na Assembleia da República, onde sou Vice-Presidente do Grupo Parlamentar do Partido Socialista, Presidente do seu Conselho de Administração e membro das Comissões Parlamentares dos Assuntos Europeus; da Comissãodos Negócios Estrangeiros e Comunidades Portuguesas e da Comissão de Ética, Sociedade e Cultura, onde tenho a responsabilidade temática da Sociedade de Informação.
Convidado pelo Sub-Secretário Geral das Nações Unidas, Sha Zukang, para ser moderador de um painel no Forum " Melhorar a Sociedade de Informação: o papel dos Parlamentos e dos Legisladores", no Palácio das Nações, em Genebra, Suiça, nos dias 14 e 15 de Maio de 2008, tive de optar por representar Portugal e a Assembleia da República nesta iniciativa das Nações Unidas. Fi-lo para assegurar a representação de Portugal numa conferência com a participação de mais de 100 deputados de todo o Mundo, onde será importante sublinhar o esforço que está a ser desenvolvido pelo País no quadro do Plano Tecnologico. Por essa razão, porque a ubiquidade ainda não é uma realidade, não poderei estar presente nas iniciativas do Feriado Municipal e na inauguração do Centro Cultural e de Congressos.
Para além da moderação, na introdução do painel " Fulfilling parliamentary responsabilities" farei uma intervenção baseada nas seguintes notas:

How to bridge the digital divide?
The Digital Divide is a new form of social exclusion and a strong driver for inequality
The e.school programme is an inclusion strategy, based on developing e-skills as part of learning, teaching, training and lifelong learning initiatives
Recognizing the link between qualifications and digital inclusion, we put in action a large scale initiative to connect people to innovation.
